On United Nations Day, I express my great appreciation to the millions of people throughout the world who believe deeply in our work for peace, development and human rights… and who upholdour ideals and help us achieve our goals. To all of you… friends and fellow citizens of the world… I say: thank you.
值此聯合國日，我謹對堅信我們爲和平、發展和人權所作的工作……捍衛我們的理想並幫助我們實現目標的遍佈全世界的數百萬人表示由衷的感謝。我要對你們大家……朋友們和世界公民們……說：謝謝你們。
Sixty-five years ago on this date, the founding Charter of the United Nations entered into force. Every year on UN Day, we reaffirmour global mission. We reassertthe universal values of tolerance, mutual respect and human dignity. And we recognize the progress we have made together: gains in literacy and life expectancy… the spread of knowledge and technology... advances in democracy and the rule of law.
65年前的今天，聯合國的創始憲章開始生效。每年的聯合國日，我們都重申我們的全球使命。我們重申容忍、相互尊重和人類尊嚴這些普遍的價值觀。我們肯定我們共同取得的進展：文盲減少了，預期壽命增加了……知識和技術得到了傳播……民主和法治得到了推進。
But above all, UN Day is a day on which we resolve to do more. More to protect those caught up in armed conflict, to fight climate change and avertnuclear catastrophe; more to expand opportunities for women and girls, and to combat injustice and impunity; more to meet the Millennium Development Goals.
不過，聯合國日首先是我們下決心繼續努力的日子。繼續努力保護受到武裝衝突影響的人、應對氣候變化和避免核災難；繼續努力爲婦女和女童提供更多的機會、消除不公正和有罪不罰現象；繼續努力實現千年發展目標。
Last month's MDG Summit at the United Nations generated political momentum… as well as financial commitments that are especially significant in these difficult economic times. I am determined to press ahead as the 2015 deadline approaches.
上個月舉行的聯合國千年發展目標首腦會議推動了政治勢頭的形成……及財政承諾。在當今經濟困難時期，這種財政承諾尤其重要。離最後期限2015年越來越近了，我決心加速前進。
Despite our problems, despite polarizationand distrust, our interconnected world has opened up vast new possibilities for common progress. Let us commit to do even more to realize the great vision set out in the UN Charter.
儘管我們面臨各種問題，儘管存在兩極分化和不信任，我們這個相互連接在一起的世界爲共同進步提供了大量新的機會。讓我們承諾加倍努力，實現《聯合國憲章》所描繪的美好前景。
