Years ago, I was at Taco Bell and had a somewhat complex order. There was a long line, so I practiced what I was going to say in my head to make the order as simple and clear as possible. I also figured out how much the meal would cost, worked out the tax, and had the exact amount of the order in my hand. The cashier was very impressed with my elocution, and even more so that I gave her the exact change.
