1.理解英文和使用英文是有差距的,課堂上聽懂,讀懂,並不意味着學生能使用,這中間需要一定的操練。只有操練後才能轉化成可輸出的語言知識和技能,但實際情況是學習者往往沒有操練時間。背誦應該是最主要和有效的操練方式。

2.背誦可以使學生髮現自己在閱讀中忽略的很多問題,如詞語搭配、時態轉變等。學生往往在背誦出現問題的地方發現自己的學習問題。

3.在沒有語言環境的情況下,背誦是最簡單易行的使用語言的方式,學生往往能夠在以後真實的對話和寫作中使用背過的句子,有時是在無意識下使用的。

4.背誦的更大價值不是在將來把自己背過的東西用出來,而是通過背誦獲得了抽象的語法能力,使學生的語法體系成熟,增強使用英語的感覺。

外語學習是一個長期的過程,學生必須要做艱苦的努力。尤其是在背誦的開始階段,每一篇課文的背誦都需要大量時間,因此教師必須要培養學生不怕艱苦,克服困難的品格。成功的外語學習能夠使學生養成良好的意志品格,使他們不僅在語言技能方面,而且在自我實現方面有所進步。

此外,讓學生樂於進行背誦練習。如把有情節的課文進行表演,舉行背誦比賽,進行課文口譯練習等。總之,不斷調動學生的激情,讓背誦成爲一種樂趣而不是負擔。當學生能夠從背誦活動中獲得成就感,必然獲得更高的熱情,從而激發學生的背誦氣氛。
