英語中定冠詞講解：定冠詞的用法（二）
冠詞是一種虛詞，本身有一定的含義，主要放在名詞前起限定作用(前置定語)，大約70%的名詞前面必須用冠詞，但在中文看來冠詞大多數是多餘的，因此要養成用冠詞的習慣，一定要加強訓練。
3.定冠詞的基本用法
定冠詞的大多數用法是有規律的，只有少數不規則或者用法特殊。
3.6大多數專有名詞前不用冠詞，但下列場合要用定冠詞
1)江河、海洋、海島、海峽、港灣和山脈等地名前要用定冠詞(這些詞大多與水有關係)
the Yangtze River長江
the Nile River尼羅河
the Pacific Ocean太平洋
the Atlantic Ocean大西洋
the Taiwan Straits臺灣海峽
the Red Sea紅海
the Persian Gulf波斯灣
the Alps阿爾卑斯山脈
the Philippies菲律賓羣島
the English Channel英吉利海峽
注意：
同樣是水，但湖泊名前不用冠詞：Dongting Lake,Lake Success, Lake Bikal(貝加爾湖)等。
2)由普通名詞和別的一些詞(含專有名詞)組成的專有名詞前大多數場合要加定冠詞(因爲它們帶有普通名詞的性質)
一些國名前：
the People’s Republic of China中華人民共和國
the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea朝鮮人民民主共和國
the French Republic法蘭西共和國
有些後置定語的大學名前：
the University ofCalifornia加州大學
the University of NewMexico新墨西哥大學
the University of NorthCarolina北卡羅來那大學
複數國名和聯合國名前：
the United States美國
the Netherlands荷蘭
the Philippines菲律賓
the United Kingdom聯合王國
the Soviet Union(前)蘇聯
一些組織機構名前：
the World Bank世界銀行
the WTO世貿組織
the United Nations聯合國
the State Council國務院
一些建築名前：
the Garden Hotel花園酒店
the Pentagon五角大樓(美國國防部大樓)
the Library of Congress國會圖書館
the Beijing Workers’ Stadium北京工人體育場
報紙、會議、條約等名稱前：
the Times《泰晤士報》
the People’s Daily《人民日報》
the Atlantic Pact《大西洋公約》
