第734期:隱藏用法 爲什麼有些地名前加the,有些就不加呢?
被你忽視的the的隱藏用法
“the”這個冠詞在英語中出現的頻率高到你難以想象，因爲它通常會加在名詞前， 幾乎是慣用搭配。The通常會加在普通名詞前，比如the computer, the river之類的。但是也有些名詞，比如專有名詞，是不需要在前面加”the”的，比如國家名：Canada, Australia, 比如人名： Kelly, Henry。但是有的時候，”the”的用法確實有些神出鬼沒。今天我們就來解鎖下這個最不起眼的定冠詞 ”the”的隱藏用法。
1. 大多數城市街道/道路/廣場/公園/重要公共建築和機構前，不需要加the
Fifth Avenue第五大道
Times Square時代廣場
Broadway百老匯
Queens Road皇后大道
Harvard University哈佛大學
Manchester Airport曼徹斯特機場
2. 隱藏用法：即使含有專有名詞的建築，也要用the
Hotels the Sheraton Hotel, the Holiday Inn
酒店 喜來登酒店，假日酒店
museums/galleries the Guggenheim Museum, the National Gallery
博物館/美術館 古根海姆博物館、國家美術館
other buildings the White House, the Eiffel Tower
其他建築 白宮， 埃菲爾鐵塔
需要注意的是，當說起大學時，加the和不加the的情況
the University of Cambridge but Cambridge University (without the)
3. 但是常見的品牌商店，卻不用the
許多商店、餐館、旅館、銀行都是以人們的名字命名的。這些名字以-s或-s結尾，這時不需要給這些名字前加the
