《摩登家庭》S01E02：成爲好父親的祕訣是什麼？

1. 我離婚手續辦好就搬走了。
△這裏沒有把搬走直譯爲move，而是說“在我離婚手續辦好之前，我還會在這裏”，這個表達可以積累一下。另外句子裏final是形容詞，意思是“最後的，最終的”。口語裏常說的that's final就表示決定不會更改，“就這麼定了”。
I'm not coming and that's final.
我已經決定了，我不會來的。
2. you.mean you wanna fit in and not terrify the villagers?
2. 你是想既融入大家又不嚇到他們嗎？
△米切爾和卡梅倫打算帶莉莉去參加親子課程，米切爾想給別人留下好印象，就讓卡梅倫換掉他的花哨衣服。
fit in主要有這兩個意思：
①合得來；適應
It's no surprise she's leaving - she never really fitted in.
她要離開——這一點也不意外，因爲她從來都沒有真正融入過。
②相合；合適
It's a very nice sofa but it doesn't fit in with the rest of the room.
這個沙發很漂亮，但是跟房間裏其他的傢俱不搭配。
3. So, any chance I could get a break on this one?
3. 那這一輛能打個折嗎？
△菲爾的自行車不見了，他只好又到商店裏重新買一輛自行車。這裏的打折菲爾沒用give a discount，而是說get a break。因爲get a break有“交好運； 時來運轉”的意思，這個表達還挺搞笑的。
4. You have no concern for safety.
4. 你一點安全意識都沒有。
△傑把曼尼的胳膊砸傷了，曼尼指責他一點安全意識都沒有，這裏的安全意識沒有說成safety awareness，而是concern for safety。concern for表示“對 ... 的關心； 憂慮”。
5. Classic me, right?
5. 我的風格，是不是？
△classic的意思較多，除了表示“經典的；一流的”，也有“極其令人討厭的”，“典型的；有代表性的”的意思。classic me的意思就是“典型的是我的風格”。
6. The eye candy here can't leave the house without spending 20 minutes in front of the mirror.
6. 旁邊這位爺不在鏡子前打扮20分鐘是不會出門的。
△又有一對男同性戀者帶着寶寶來上親子課，他們很隨性自在，還打趣自己的另一半是eye candy。eye candy的本意是華而不實的人（或物）。
Most of the images on the website are not more than eye candy.
網頁上大多數圖片雖然吸引眼球，卻毫無意義。
7. This class has turned me into a complete monster.
7. 這個班讓我發瘋了。
△爲了不被當作異類，在班上米切爾和卡梅倫一直在壓抑自己，感覺要發瘋了。turn sb into a comlete monster意思是讓某人發瘋，這是個很形象的表達。
8. He was dying to see you.
8. 他很想見你。
△曼尼的爸爸哈維爾沉迷賭博不來接曼尼了，而傑不知道該怎麼向曼尼解釋，他只好說哈維爾是爲了做好人好事纔不能來接曼尼的，還說哈維爾很想來見他。
dying to和 eager for意思相近，都表示渴望：
We were in a fever of impatience; we were dying to see the renowned Cathedral!
大家急得要命；恨不得一見聞名天下的大教堂。
9. Sometimes things work out just the way you want. Sometimes they don't. You got hang in there. Because when all is said and done, 90% of being a dad is just showing up.
9. 有時候事情會如你所願，有時候則事與願違，但你要堅持，因爲當一切塵埃落地，一個好父親的大部分特徵就會自然出現。
△《摩登家庭》總是不乏金句。成爲好父親的祕訣是什麼？堅持下去就會知道。hang in there的意思是“堅持住，挺住”。
Work can get tough in the middle of a term but hang in there and it'll be OK.
到了學期中間功課會變得很難，但堅持下去就會好的。
