China's transportation authority on Sunday ordered local departments to launch thorough safety overhaul to resolutely curb severe traffic accidents after a raft of tragedies in less than a month.

中國鐵道部負責人上週日要求各地方部門開展全面徹底的安全大檢查，徹底杜絕嚴重鐵路事故的發生。在一個月內，已發生了多起鐵路事故，釀成慘劇。

文中的safety overhaul就是指“安全大檢查”，overhaul指的是“徹底檢修、改造”，比如：It is generally appreciated that the rail network needs a complete overhaul.（衆所周知，鐵路系統需要大檢修。）類似的說法還有safety inspection。

23日晚，溫州南站附近發生動車rear-end collision（追尾相撞）事故，造成多人死傷。動車一般稱爲bullet train，因此車次都以D字開頭。實行ID-based ticket booking system（實名購票）。此次事故前，運行不久的high-speed rail（高鐵）也接連發生故障。
