Ass having heard some Grasshoppers chirping, was highly enchanted; and, desiring to possessthe same charms of melody, demanded what sort of food they lived on, to give them suchbeautiful voices. They replied, "The dew." The Ass resolved that he would only live upon dew,and in a short time died of hunger.

the WOLF AND THE LAMBA

Wolf, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold, resolved not to lay violent hands on him, butto find some plea, which should justify to the Lamb himself his right to eat him. He thusaddressed him:"Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted me." "Indeed," bleated the Lamb in amournful tone of voice, "I was not then born." Then said the Wolf, "You feed in my pasture."

"No, good sir," replied the Lamb, "I have not yet tasted grass." Again said the Wolf, "You drinkof my well." "No," exclaimed the Lamb, "I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother′s milk isboth food and drink to me." On which the Wolf seized him, and ate him up, saying, "Well! I won′t remain supperless, even though you refute every one of my imputations."The tyrant willalways find a pretext for his tyranny.

An ox, grazing in a swampy meadow, chanced to set his foot among a parcel of youngfrogs, and crushed nearly the whole brood to death that escaped ran off to his motherwith the dreadful news."and ,oh ,mother !"said he ,"it was a beast -such a big four footedbeast!-that did it .""Big?" quoth the old frog , "How big? Was it as big" -- and she puffedherself out to a GREat degree-"as big as this ?""oh!"said the little one ,"a great deal bigger thanthat .""well, was it so big ?"and she swelled herself out yet mere ."Indeed ,mother ,but it was,and of you were to burst yourself you would never reach half its size."provoked at such adisparagement of her powers, the old frog made one more trial ,and burst herself indeed.

So men are ruined by attempting GREatness to which they have no claim.
