一、英語中表示“許多”的詞組很多，按其用法可以分爲以下三類
1、修飾可名詞：many、a number of、 a few、many a、several等。many a 的意思相當於many , 但many a 後邊接可數名詞單數，如：
Many a student has such a question.許多同學有這樣的疑問。
A number of students have passed the exam.許多學生都通過了考試。
Several days ago, I met him in the park.幾天前我在公園裏遇到了他。
2、修飾不可數名詞：much、a great deal of、a large amount of等。
We can get a great deal of(a large amount of) information from internet.我們可以從互聯網上獲得大量信息。
3、既可修飾可數名詞,也可修飾不可數名詞：a lot of (lots of ); plenty of; a large quantity of 等。
Plenty of the water is polluted.許多水都被污染了。
Plenty of the rivers are polluted.許多河都被污染了。
二、few、little;a few、a little的用法：
1、few 和a few 都修飾可數名詞。few意爲“幾乎沒有”，表示否定;a few表示“有些、幾個”，表示肯定;quite a few=many(修飾可數名詞)表示“許多”。如：
I have eaten a few apples today.=I have eaten many apples today.
He has few friends.他幾乎沒有什麼朋友。
2、little和a little都修飾不可數名詞。little意爲“幾乎沒有幾個”，表示否定;a little表示“有些”。如：
I have little money.我幾乎身無分文。
I have a little work to do.我有一些工作要做
quite a little=much(修飾不可數名詞)表示“許多。
三、a number of 與the number of的區別：
a number of 相當於some，a few; a great/large number of相當於many，quite a few;the number of指的是“…的數量”。如：
The number of the students in our school is 5，000. 我們學校學生的數量是5000人。
A number of students have passed the exam.許多學生都通過了考試。
