1. skeleton in the/your closet
这个短语形容an embarrassing secret,翻译为“丑事,隐情”,英式口语里用skeleton in the/your cupboard。
Most families have one or two skeletons in the closet.
2. be (as) dead as a/the dodo
Letter-writing is as dead as the dodo.
补充一个has-been,这是口语里的常用词,牛津词典是这么解释的:a person who in the past(在过去) was famous, important, admired, or good at something, but is no longer(不再) any of these。
That performer is a has-been.
3. kick the bucket
I have so many things on my bucket list yet to do.
4. graveyard shift
work the graveyard shift
5. saved by the bell
Luckily my bus arrived before I had time to reply. Saved by the bell.
