茶話會第343期:絕對就是這樣

1. Make no mistake (about it), if we don't address these problems now, they will only get worse.
Make no mistake about it，我們知道mistake表示“錯誤”，是個名詞。Make no mistake 字面意思是不犯錯，其實爲了強調一件事的真實性和準確性，我們就可以在表達中加上這個短語，Make no mistake about it來表示“絕對就是這樣”或者“完全可以肯定”。Make no mistake (about it), if we don't address these problems now, they will only get worse. 如果我們現在不解決問題，事情只會越來越糟，肯定就是這樣。Make no mistake (about it)放在句首，起到強調的作用。
2. Look to it that you make no more similar mistakes.
這句話上級對下級會說得多一點兒。Look to it表示“當心，注意”，後面可以加that連接的從句，比如Look to it that you are not late again. 當心別再遲到了。Make mistake剛剛講過了，表示犯錯，make similar mistakes指“犯相同的錯誤，”no more不再。Look to it that you make no more similar mistakes. 要當心今後不要再犯類似的錯誤了。
3. It really depends on who's in charge.
短語depend on常用於兩個意思，一是“依賴，依靠”，比如：I have no one but you to depend on. 除了你，我沒有可依靠的人。另外一個意思則是“取決於，隨…而定”。It really depends on who's in charge. 這完全取決於怎樣的一個人呢？In charge 表示“負責，主管”，如果要說明具體負責的項目，加介詞of，比如：I am in charge of financial affairs. 我職掌財務。Who’s in charge 指的是負責的那個人。當別人纏着你問一個你根本不瞭解的問題時，可以說：It really depends on who's in charge. 那純粹要看誰負責了。
