Faith口語天天學第72期:如何表達與某人競爭

首先介紹一個動詞詞組： gaze at, 意思是“盯着看”，“凝視”，“注視”：

He was gazing at a couple of hot girls eating chicken wings. 他一直在盯着看幾個正在吃雞翅的漂亮性感女孩。

She gazed at me for a long time before she recognized who I was. 她注視着我好久, 才認出我是誰。

As I gaze at the vast blue sky, I feel helpless. 望着那遼闊的天空，甚覺心有餘而力不足矣。

下面來到今天的正課，如何表達競爭，可以用“compete”這個動詞，意思是“競賽; 競爭”，“比得上, 媲美”，如：

Who could compete in the Olympics? 什麼樣人可以參加奧運會？

These products are of high quality and able to compete internationally. 這些產品品質很好, 在國際市場上有競爭能力。

那麼，想表達與某人，或某個競爭對手競爭，或比得上競爭對手時，可以在“compete”後面加一個介詞“with/against”，然後在“with/against”後面加上競爭對手就可以了：

We can't compete against our overseas competitors. 我們工廠競爭不過海外的對手。

The firm is too small to compete against large ones. 這家公司太小，不能與大公司抗衡。

you.cannot compete with those postgraduates. 你無法和那些研究生競爭。

My handwriting cannot compete with his. 我的書法不及他。

We can compete with the best teams. 我們能與最好的團隊競爭。

順便提一句, “compete”的名詞形式是”competition”, 當我們形容競爭很激烈時,可以這樣來說: The competition is rather intense. 這場競爭相當激烈.
