每天三分鐘學英語 第539期:英文Down the street並不是在街下面的意思!

在國外“問路”時，要怎麼開口呢？簡明又禮貌的描述你的目的地：
遊客A: Excuse me sir, is Plaza Mall down this street? According to my map, it should be right here.
先生打擾一下，請問廣場購物中心是在這條街上嗎？我看地圖，應該就在這裏。
路人B: You got the wrong street. Plaza Mall is still a couple blocks down.
你走錯街道了。廣場購物中心還要往前走幾個街區。
Down the street
在這條街上
通常down和along比較像，指“沿着這條街”，所以當說down the street時，一般就是指“面朝”或“手指”的方向。
舉兩個例子：
① It's ok. I can walk. My hostel is down the street.
沒關係，我可以走路過去。我住的青旅就在這條街上。
② There's a pharmacy down the street from where I'm staying.
我住的地方那條街上有一家藥店。

我們不僅會“問路”，還要能聽懂對方的“指路”，尤其是當我們走錯路時：
Got the wrong…
弄錯了…
舉兩個例子：
① I must have gotten the wrong address because there's no bars near me.
我肯定是把地址搞錯了，因爲我附近沒有酒吧。
② You got the wrong place. This is the bookstore we went to last time.
你走錯地方了。這是我們上次去的那家書店。
A couple blocks down
再過幾個街區
這裏的down就是：指路人“手指”或“面朝”的方向啦。
國外的blocks（街區）之間通常是由比較寬的馬路隔開。
舉幾個例子：
① We're close. The Museum of Modern Art is just a couple blocks down.
我們快到了。再走幾個街區就到現代藝術博物館了。
② The campus is still a couple blocks down. If you're tired, we can take the bus.
還有幾個街區纔到校園。如果你累了，我們可以做公交車。
