There is "credible evidence" Justin Bieber fathered a child after a backstage encounter with an older female fan, her lawyers have claimed.

Bieber, who was 16 at the time of the incident, vehemently denies the allegations that have rocked the music world and left millions of his mainly teenage female fans stunned.

Miss Yeater is said to have filed a lawsuit earlier this month claiming that Bieber's bodyguards invited her backstage after a performance at the Staples Centre, in Los Angeles, in October of last year.

Despite Bieber's publicist's calling the lawsuit a fabrication, malicious, defamatory, and "demonstrably false", her lawyers said late on Wednesday there was "credible evidence" behind the claims.

Miss Yeater has apparently requested that the court force Bieber to take a paternity test and "to provide adequate support" for her three-month-old who was born on July 6.

American gossip website , which claims to have seen the handwritten affidavit submitted by Miss Yeater, reported that a court date had been set for December 15.

A spokesman for Bieber said on Wednesday: "While we haven't yet seen the lawsuit, it's sad that someone would fabricate malicious, defamatory, and demonstrably false claims.

By her account she would have been 19 at the time of the encounter but the singer would have been only 16. California's age of consent is 18.
