Greg walked into the office with his head hung low. His fellow co-workers saw his glum face and asked what was wrong. He informed them that he was unable to get the money he needed to fly home and see his family.
葛瑞格垂頭喪氣地走進辦公室，同事看到他悶悶不樂的，便問他發生了什麼事。他告訴大夥他沒錢買機票回家看他的家人。
He had been working overseas for years. Each month he sends money back to his parents who care for his sister who has a disability. This year his whole family is getting together for a family reunion. Greg wanted to go very badly but he couldn’t afford it.
他在國外工作八年，每個月都要寄錢給父母讓他們照顧殘障的妹妹。今年，全家人團圓。他非常想回去，可是卻負擔不起。
His co-workers gave their sympathies, then told Greg that the boss wanted to see him. He walked down the hall and knocked on his boss’s door. His boss greeted him. “Greg, I know your vacation time is coming up. I thought you could use this.”
同事同情他的遭遇，並告訴葛瑞格老闆要見他。他走到老闆的門口，敲敲門，老闆問候他。“葛瑞格，我知道你就快休假了，我想你也許用得着這個。”
He handed Greg an envelope. Greg opened it and saw a nice sized cheque. “It is your bonus cheque.” His boss informed him. “I thought you could use it sooner than later.” With a big smile, Greg thanked his boss. Greg had his ticket home.
他交給葛瑞格一個信封，葛瑞格打開，看到裏頭有張面額不小的支票。“這是你的紅利獎金”，老闆告訴他，“我想你很快就會需要它。”葛瑞格露出燦爛的笑容，謝謝他的老闆，他終於有了返鄉的機票。
四年級英語故事短文：The Coming CatastropheThe Earth is only one of the numerous planets. It is not unique. so one day, we had unexpected guests. Some Ets were coming. Unlike other Ets, they were unkind. They had unlimited ambition. They were unlikely to treat the earthmen well. The earth union held an urget meeting in a university. The world unity was essential in time of universal war. All the officers wore in chairman unlocked a door and guided the others to walk into the room. Then he unfolded a universal map. He said the earthmen must unite against the invaders. All the people that supported the chairman would be unified under his leadership. Unfortunately, the chairman was unfit for the position even though he said the people’s accusation was unjust. The chairman’s work was unsatisfactory. According to his order many workers were unloading weapons from ships in the harbor. All the weapons were unpaid. Nobody knew that most o f these weapons were unsuitable to cope with those Ets. the Earth was facing a catastrophe unlee some real leader replaced the chairman.
地球只是衆多星球中的一個。它並非獨一無二的，因此有一天我們有了意外的來客。一些外星人正朝地球來。不像其他外星人，他們非常不和善。他們有着無限的野心，他們未必善待地球人。地球同盟在一所大學裏召開了緊急會議。在宇宙的戰爭中世界範圍內的團結是很重要的。所有的軍官都穿着制服。主席打開一扇門帶領其他人走進屋子。然後他展開一幅宇宙地圖。他說地球人必須團結起來反抗侵略者。所有支持主席的人將統一在他的領導之下。不幸地是，主席並不勝任這個職位，儘管他說人們的評價不公平。主席的工作不能令人滿意，根據他的命令，很多工人在海港從船上卸下武器，所有武器的帳款都是未付的，沒人知道大部分武器都不合適用來對付外星人。地球將面臨大災難。除非有真正的領導者取代主席。
四年級英語故事短文：免費火車Three engineers and three mathematicians are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three mathmaticians each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket.
三個工程師和三個數學家一起坐火車去參加會議。到了車站，三個數學家每人各買了一張票，卻看到三個工程師只買了一張票。
"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks a mathmatician. "Watch and you'll see," answers the engineer.
“三個人只買一張票要怎麼坐火車啊?”其中一名數學家問道。“等會你就知道了。”其中一名工程師回答。
They all board the train. The mathmaticians take their respective seats, but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.
他們全部上火車之後，數學家各自找到位子，三個工程師卻擠進廁所，把身後的門給關上。
Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He koncks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please."
火車開動後不久，車長便來收票。他敲了敲廁所的門說：“車票，麻煩一下。”
The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.
廁所門只打開一條縫，一隻手拿了票伸了出來。車長車票一拿便繼續往前走。
The mathmaticians see this and agree it is quite a clever idea, so after the conferrnce, they decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money (being clever with money,and all that.)
數學家們看了都覺得這個點子真是聰明，會議結束後，便決定回程時學工程師，替自己省點錢(遇到和錢有關的事情，人自然就精明起來。)
When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all.
到了車站，他們只買了一張回程票，但讓他們驚訝的是，工程師們連一張票都沒買。
"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" asks one perplexd mathmatician.
“你們沒有票要怎麼回去?”其中一名一頭霧水的數學家問道。
"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.
“等會你就知道了。”其中一名工程師回答。
When they board the train, the three mathmaticians cram into one restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby.
大夥兒上火車之後，三個數學家便擠進廁所裏，而三個工程師則擠到旁邊另一間廁所。
The train departed, shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his room and walks over to the restroom where the mathmaticians are hiding. He knocks on the door and says,"Ticket, please."
火車開動後不久，其中一名工程師便從廁所出來走到數學家藏身的廁所，敲了敲門說道：“車票，麻煩一下。”
