As Maria Robinson once said, “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” But before you can begin this process of transformation you have to stop doing the things that have been holding you back.

瑪麗亞-羅賓森說過:“沒有人可以回到過去重新開始,但每一個人都可以從現在開始,創造全新的未來。” 但是在你開始轉變之前,必須停止做那些阻礙你前行的事情。

Here are some ideas to get you started:

1. Stop running from your problems. – Face them head on. No, it won’t be easy. We aren’t supposed to be able to instantly solve problems. In fact, we’re made to get upset, sad, hurt, stumble and fall. Because that’s the whole purpose of living – to face problems, learn, adapt, and solve them over the course of time. This is what ultimately molds us into the person we become.

不要逃避問題——要面對它們。但是,這並不容易,我們沒法立刻解決問題。在遇到問題時,我們會本能地心煩意亂、悲傷、痛苦、躊躇、情緒低落。 因爲這就是生活的全部意義——隨着時間的推移,去面對問題,然後去學習、適應,從而解決問題。通過這樣的方式,生活把我們塑造成了現在的樣子。

2. Stop lying to yourself. – You can lie to anyone else in the world, but you can’t lie to yourself. Our lives improve only when we take chances, and the first and most difficult chance we can take is to be honest with ourselves.

不要欺騙自己。——在這個世界上,你可以對任何人說謊,但是不能欺騙自己。只有在我們抓住機遇時,生活才能得以改善。而要想這樣,我們最先要嘗試的也是最難的,就是對自己誠實。

3. Stop putting your own needs on the back burner. – The most painful thing is losing yourself in the process of loving someone too much, and forgetting that you are special too. Yes, help others; but help yourself too. If there was ever a moment to follow your passion and do something that matters to you, that moment is now.

不要總是把自己的需要放在後面。——人世間最痛苦的事情莫過於,愛別人愛得過深,在愛的過程中失去了自我,從而忘記了自己有多麼特別。是的,我們要幫助他人;但是也要自助。如果你還沒有追隨自己的激情,還沒有做一些對自己來說重要的事情,那麼現在就開始做吧。

4. Stop trying to be someone you’re not. – One of the greatest challenges in life is being yourself in a world that’s trying to make you like everyone else. Someone will always be prettier, someone will always be smarter, someone will always be younger, but they will never be you. Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you.

不要努力成爲別人。——在一個總想把你變成他人的世界中,做好自己是人生的一大挑戰。總是有人比你可愛、比你聰明、比你年輕。但是他們都不是你。不要去改變來讓大家去喜歡你。做好你自己,會有對的人愛上真正的你。

5. Stop trying to hold onto the past. – You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading your last one.

不要沉迷於過去。——如果你一直沉迷於過去, 就無法開啓生活的新篇章。

6. Stop berating yourself for old mistakes. – No matter how things go wrong, one thing is for sure, mistakes help us find the person and things that are right for us. We all make mistakes, have struggles, and even regret things in our past. Every single thing that has ever happened in your life is preparing you for a moment that is yet to come.

不要因爲過去的錯誤而自責。——無論事情錯得有多麼離譜,有一點可以肯定:錯誤能幫助我們找到正確的人和事。我們都會犯錯、遇到困難,甚至後悔過去的事情。但生活中發生的每件事情都會爲還沒來到的那一刻做準備。

7. Stop being idle. – Don’t think too much or you’ll create a problem that wasn’t even there in the first place. Evaluate situations and take decisive action. Making progress involves risk.

不要只想不做。——不要想得太多,否則你會創造新的問題。對情況進行評估,然後果斷行動。要想進步,就要冒險。

8. Stop thinking you’re not ready. – Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow beyond our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first.

不要總是覺得自己還沒有準備好。——當機遇降臨時,沒有人會百分百完全準備好。因爲生活中大部分的機遇會使我們脫離習慣的舒適區,這也就意味着,一切在開始時我們不會感到很自在。

9. Stop trying to compete against everyone else. – Don’t worry about what others are doing better than you. Concentrate on beating your own records every day. Success is a battle between YOU and YOURSELF only.

不要和別人競爭。——不要擔心別人做得比你好。集中精力,每天打破自己的記錄。成功只是你和你自己之間的戰爭。

10. Stop being jealous of others. – Jealousy is the art of counting someone else’s blessings instead of your own. Ask yourself this: “What’s something I have that everyone wants?”

不要嫉妒他人。——嫉妒實際上是在歷數別人的幸福,而不是自己的。問問自己:“什麼東西別人都想要,而我已經擁有了?”

11. Stop doing the same things over and over without taking a break. – The time to take a deep breath is when you don’t have time for it. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. Sometimes you need to distance yourself to see things clearly.

不要重複做同樣的事情也不歇歇。——越是很忙的時候越要休息。如果你一直做同樣的事情,你會一直得到相同的結果。有時,你需要自己離遠一點兒來把事情看清。

12. Stop overlooking the beauty of small moments. – Enjoy the little things, because one day you may look back and discover they were the big things. The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.

不要忽視美妙的小瞬間。——享受小事情,因爲有一天當你回顧過去時,你會發現它們反而是大事兒。生活中最美妙的部分,是你向對自己重要的人微笑時的那些瑣碎又難以形容的時刻。

13. Stop acting like everything is fine if it isn’t. – It’s okay to fall apart for a little while. You don’t always have to pretend to be strong, and there is no need to constantly prove that everything is going well. You shouldn’t be concerned with what other people are thinking either – cry if you need to – it’s healthy to shed your tears. The sooner you do, the sooner you will be able to smile again.

不如意時,不要假裝一切都好。——偶爾的崩潰也未嘗不可。不要總是假裝堅強,沒有必要去證明一切都好。你不要去想別人會怎麼想,想哭就哭吧!流流淚對身體有好處。你越早這樣做,你就能越快微笑起來。

14. Stop worrying so much. – Worry will not strip tomorrow of its burdens, it will strip today of its joy. One way to check if something is worth mulling over is to ask yourself this question: “Will this matter in one year’s time? Three years? Five years?” If not, then it’s not worth worrying about.

不要過度擔心。——擔心不會減輕明天的負擔,它只會減少今天的快樂。有一種方式可以判斷某件事情是不是值得自己仔細思考:“這件事一年以後還重要嗎?三年後呢?五年後呢?” 如果答案是否定的,那麼它根本就不值得你去煩惱。

15. Stop focusing on what you don’t want to happen. – Focus on what you do want to happen. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story. If you awake every morning with the thought that something wonderful will happen in your life today, and you pay close attention, you’ll often find that you’re right.

不要關注你不想發生的事情。——關注你想發生的事情。每個成功故事的首頁都寫着積極思考。如果你每天早晨醒來,都想着今天生活中會發生的好事兒,多加關注,你會發現事實確實如此。
