It seems it is shaped not like a spherebut a potato. A precise model of Earth's geoidis crucial for deriving accurate measurements of ocean circulation, sea-level change and terrestrial ice dynamics.
從圖上看來我們住的地球不僅不是個規則的球形，看起來還有點像個坑坑窪窪的土豆。圖上精確的地球大地水準面是根據洋流、海平面的變化和地球冰川等元素的精確數據測量而成。
The geoid is also used as a reference surface from which to map the topographical features on the planet. In addition, a better understanding of variations in the gravity field will lead to a deeper understanding of Earth's interior.
本次製作的地球水準面模型在繪製地球地貌時也將會被用來參考。另外這對人類更好的研究重力作用下地球內部活動產生積極影響。
