當他人有事情交代的時候，爲了表明自己不會拖延，會盡速辦理，你就可以用上這句短語first thing tomorrow，好讓對方安心。當然由於事情的輕重緩急有所不同，趕辦的時間也可以視情況而代換，好比first thing in the morning“一早趕辦”，first thing Monday“週一趕辦”等等。
A: When are you going to start working on this project?
你何時會開始進行這個計劃?
B: I'll get to it first thing tomorrow.
我趕明天就馬上進行。

step on one's toes 這個表達法，當然可以表達字面上的意思“踩到(某人的)腳趾”，不過在使用上，step on someone's toes 更常用來表達員工很盡力表現，甚至逾越到了本該是主管或老闆的工作，掠人之美而讓在上位者面子不保，意思就猶如中文裏的“功高震主”。
A: You'd better watch out, or you'll step on your boss's toes.
你最好注意一點，否則你會把老闆的面子都搶光了。
B: I'm just trying to do a good job and get everything finished on time.
我只是努力把工作做好，讓所有的事情如期完成而已。
【play for keeps 爭出你死我活】
這個表達法是從玩“彈珠”marbler 的遊戲衍生而來的，遊戲可能只是玩好玩的，但有的人是本着認真的心情，贏了彈珠就是要自己留着，沒有兒戲的成分。運用在競爭激烈的商場或是有輸贏勝負的情況，play for keeps 就是指“爭出個你死我活”。

I'm with you.字面上的意義是“我和你在一起。”，而在使用上，I'm with you.是指“我聽得懂你說的話。”若當對方已滔滔不絕地講了一堆話，你爲了表達自己都有在聽，也都還跟得上他所說的話，這時候你就可以說I'm with you so far.“我到現在都還聽得懂。”
A: So we got the bike and walked two miles, you paying attention?
所以我們推摩托車走了兩裏，然後……你在注意聽嗎?
B: I'm with you so far. Keep going.

要向對方打聽祕密的說詞很多種，直接的辦法如Tell me the secret 或Let me know what you have found out 等等。但比較婉轉的似比較好，上面對話中的Do you know something I don't? 就是不錯的說詞，這句話的意思是Do you know something I don't know?
