三伏天的英文是dog days，它和狗有什麼關係嗎？

你沒看錯，dog days可譯作狗日、犬日，指的就是夏天中最熱的時期，即我們所說的三伏。

這個說法源自源自拉丁語：diēs caniculārēs，這個詞與大犬座的天狼星相關，在英語中又被稱作犬星（Dog Star）。天狼星在7月至8月時出現在北半球的天空上，正當夏天最熱的時期，古羅馬人認爲這個星星帶來了這個時期的暑熱，故而有了這個說法。
