無處不在的恐懼Phobia,看看你有幾個?(1)

今天在辦公室裏討論着“恐懼症”這個問題,英語君發現現在都市人不多不少都有一個或者多個恐懼症。那麼今天,英語君就根據身邊小夥伴們所說的,列出10個恐懼症,害怕之餘不要忘記記下“害怕“的各種表達喲。

首先,要先和大家說說恐懼症phobia這個單詞。Phobia是個名字,有“恐怖,憎惡;恐懼症“的意思,但它也可以作爲一個後綴,指代所有的恐懼症。

1.密集物體恐懼Trypophobia

e.g. Trypophobia is a revulsion and fear of objects with clusters of small holes – think beehives, ant holes, and in particular lotus seed heads.

密集恐懼症就是指對有密集小孔的物體感到噁心和恐懼,類似物體有蜂窩、蟻窩,尤其是蓮蓬。


e.g. I have Trypophobia. I’ve had it for years and never told anyone. When I see pictures like this, I practically faint. I can feel the blood rush out of my face. My heart races. My stomach turns over. I have nightmares. Laugh all you want, I now have goose bumps everywhere.

我有密集恐懼症很多年了,也沒告訴過任何人。當我看到這樣的圖片時,真的馬上嚇得我快暈倒的。我都能感覺到自己嚇得臉紅耳赤,心跳加速,腸胃翻滾,噩夢連連。你們就儘管笑吧,反正我是周身雞皮疙瘩的。


Faint:有形容詞、動詞以及名詞。表示:頭暈的,虛弱的,昏厥,昏倒。

heart races:不是心比賽,而是很形象的形容心跳加速。

e.g. Your heart races every time he calls and your palms sweat whenever he's near.

每當聽到他呼喚我的名字就心跳加速,不管什麼時候只要他在身邊你就手心冒汗。


goose bumps:雞皮疙瘩的意思,除了可以形容害怕以外,還可以在興奮,寒冷的時候用。

e.g. I stepped inside, my arms turning to goose bumps from the chill.

我慢慢走進去,洞內陰冷的空氣讓我手上起滿了雞皮疙瘩。


nightmare:噩夢,可怕的。除了是說一個噩夢以外,還可以形容某事情很令人可怕。

e.g. Taking my son Peter to a restaurant was a nightmare.

帶我兒子彼得去飯店吃飯真是一場噩夢。


2.無手機焦慮症nomophobia

e.g. Nearly 53 percent of mobile phone users in Britain tend to be anxious when they "lose their mobile phone, run out of battery or credit, or have no network coverage.

英國有近53%的手機用戶在“手機丟失、手機沒電或餘額不足、或者不在服務區”的時候會感到焦慮不安。


e.g. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling anxious, on edge and worried when I don't have my phone with me. In fact, I know I'm not alone: two-thirds of us experience 'nomophobia', the fear of being out of mobile phone contact.

當手機不在身邊的時候,我敢肯定不止我一個人會感到焦慮,緊張和擔心。實際上,確實大部分人也會如此。我們當中有三分之二的人都有手機聯繫不上恐懼心理的經歷。


Anxious:焦慮的,擔憂的。

e.g. Most parents are anxious for their children's advancement.

大多數父母都爲自己孩子的進步感到焦慮。


on edge:緊張,急切。

e.g. So if you're feeling on edge about what you need to do, don't let that stop you.

所以,如果你對將要做的事情感到緊張,別讓這種焦慮成爲絆腳石。


3.結婚恐懼症gametophobia

e.g. He loved me but he was afraid to marry me because for fear I'd upset his way of thinking and living.

他愛我,可是他害怕跟我結婚,因爲怕我打亂他的思想和生活方式。


e.g. Many people don't want to get married because they are afraid of commitments.

許多人不願結婚是因爲他們害怕承擔責任。


Be afraid to do:害怕做某事

e.g. Don't be afraid to do anything wrong, even if the wrong without regret.

不要害怕做錯什麼,即使錯了也不必懊悔。


Be afraid of sth:害怕某事

e.g. Singles are stereotyped as miserable, lonely, immature, too picky, afraid of commitment, and so on.

一聽到某人單身,人們下意識地就會認爲這個人是可憐的、孤獨的、不成熟、眼光太高、恐懼承諾等。


4.選擇恐懼症Allodoxaphobia 

e.g. In addition, excursions should be taken into consideration if you have allodoxaphobia (fear of making a choice) or you are in a dilemma.

此外,如果你有選擇恐懼症的話(害怕做選擇),那麼去短途旅行要考慮周全,不然你會左右爲難。


e.g. There are too lot cakes to choose since.

蛋糕太多了,不知要選哪個好。


e.g. It’s difficult to opt from so many choices.

從那樣多可供選擇的東西中做選擇是困難的。


e.g. Life is full of hard choices, and the bigger they are and the more options we have, the harder they get.

生活中很多事情真的是很難選擇,事情對你來說越是重要,選擇越是多,那麼就很難做出選擇。


take into consideration:考慮周全,顧及到

e.g. Of course, we also have to take into consideration our lifestyles.

當然,我們也必須考慮到我們的生活方式。


in a dilemma:進退兩難,左右爲難

e.g. It was precisely at this juncture that the boss found himself in A dilemma.

恰恰在這個時候老闆發現了自己處在進退兩難的境地。


Options:縮寫 opt ,常見於日常便條以及商務英語中。

5.恐血癥hemophobia

e.g. You don't want to sign up for a $ 10,000 vet tech course only to find out later that you faint at the sight of puppy blood.

你也不想報名上了一萬美金的獸醫課,結果只發現你暈血。


e.g. Since childhood has always been afraid of blood, I saw this, I cannot help but cry.

從小一向害怕血的我,見到這種情況,我不禁哭了起來。


cannot help but:不得不,不禁

e.g. We cannot help but admit that the Chinese people are a great people.

我們不得不承認,中華民族是一個偉大的民族。
