Rob's making some bold claims that Feifei can't taking seriously. Has he really got some good news or is he just telling outrageous lies? Luckily Feifei has a phrase that can describe his actions. Learn all about it in this programme.

羅布說了一些大膽的話,不過菲菲不會把他的話當真的。他真的有好消息嗎,還是他說的只是可恥的謊言?幸運的是菲菲有一個可以形容他這種行爲的短語。請收聽本期節目瞭解詳情。

Feifei: Hello and welcome to The English We Speak. I'm Feifei and joining me today is Rob.

菲菲:大家好,歡迎收聽地道英語節目。我是菲菲,今天和我一起主持節目的是羅布。

Rob: Hi everyone. Ah Feifei, what a lovely day it is today.

羅布:大家好。菲菲,今天天氣真好啊!

Feifei: What? It's raining. You seem to be in a good mood.

菲菲:什麼?現在在下雨呢。你看起來心情不好。

Rob: Yes. I've done all my work and the boss has given me the rest of the day off... so I'm off. Bye.

羅布:沒錯。我完成了所有的工作,老闆說我今天可以下班了,我要走了。再見。

Feifei: Hold on Rob! Could you at least stay and present this programme?

菲菲:等等,羅布!你能不能留下來主持完這期節目?

Rob: Oh OK then. I suppose there's no rush to go shopping and spend the bonus he's given me is there?

羅布:哦,好的。我想也不用急着去購物,花掉老闆給我的獎金。

Feifei: Oh come on Rob. This doesn't sound like our boss. You're telling me a barefaced lie.

菲菲:得了吧,羅布。這聽起來不像我們老闆的作風。你說的全是可恥的謊言。

Rob: Barefaced? No no, this really is my hairy face — look!

羅布:沒有鬍鬚的臉?不是,不是,這真是我長滿鬍鬚的臉,你看!

Feifei: No — the word 'barefaced' can literally mean 'having no beard' but we also use the word to mean 'without any disguise' or 'being deliberately bold and shameless'. So Rob is a 'barefaced liar' because he's obviously telling a lie without any embarrassment. Sorry Rob, I think you're lying but let's hear some more examples of this phrase...

菲菲:我不是這個意思,barefaced這個詞字面上的意思是“沒有鬍鬚”,不過我們也用這個詞來形容“毫不掩飾”或“露骨又無恥”。所以,羅布是一個“無恥的騙子”,因爲很明顯他毫不尷尬地說了謊。抱歉羅布,我認爲你在說謊,我們還是先來聽幾個相關例句吧。

Examples

例句

The company's claim that profits had jumped by ten per cent was obviously a barefaced lie.

公司稱利潤上漲了10%根本就是無恥的謊言。

John was at the pub last night bragging about his goal-scoring again — but we all know he's a barefaced liar.

約翰昨天又在酒吧吹噓他的進球得分了,不過我們都知道他是無恥的騙子。

Feifei: Someone being barefaced means doing something without shame, and Rob — you are being a deliberate and outrageous liar aren't you?

菲菲:用barefaced來形容某個人,意思是他厚顏無恥地做了某事,羅布,你是個無恥的騙子,對吧?

Rob: Oh well, yes, I suppose so — I was doing it to show you how great I am.

羅布:哦,嗯,我想可能是吧,我剛纔那樣是想讓你看看我有多優秀。

Feifei: Well it didn't work — and I'm going to show you my 'bear' face now.

菲菲:嗯,那並沒什麼效果,現在我要讓你看看我的“熊臉”。

[BEAR ROAR FX]

(特效:熊咆哮的聲音)

Rob: Wow that's a real 'bear' face but at least you haven't got a beard — although if you did have one, maybe you'd look less... fat?

羅布:哇,那真是一張“熊臉”,不過你沒有鬍鬚,如果你有鬍鬚的話,可能你看上去就不會那麼胖了?

Feifei: Huh! Barefaced cheek!

菲菲:哈!這真是厚顏無恥的行爲!

Rob: Time to go I think. Bye.

羅布:我想節目該結束了。再見。

Feifei: Bye.

菲菲:再見。
