第一節:(共15小題;每小題2分,滿分30分)

閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項中,選出最佳選項。

A

I was with a group of businessmen, and we were dealing with a question— What is a good person?

At a certain point during the discussion, one of the students—a young man of about thirty—described an event that happened at Christmas. He and his five-year-old son were decorating the Christmas tree, and a little boy came to the front door begging. If you ever visit Mexico, you will see that the people there take begging as nothing to get upset about and nothing to get embarrassed by.

So, this little boy came to the door, a boy about the same age as my student’s son. The father and the son went to the front door, and the father went back with his five-year-old son and said to him, “Give him one of your toys.” At the words, the little boy quickly picked up some toy, and his father said to him, “No, no-give him your favorite toy.”

And the little boy, like a little tiger, said, “No way!” He cried; he refused. But the father, like a big tiger in a way, insisted gently, “No, you must give him one of your favorite toys.”

And finally the boy, with his head down, picked up a toy he had just gotten. The father waited in the living room, and the boy walked to the front door with the toy in his hand. The father waited and waited.

What do you think happened?

After a couple of minutes, his son came running back into the living room, his face radiant (喜氣洋洋). “Daddy,” he said, “can I do that again?”

I think I have got the answer to the question.

21. From the passage, we can learn that in Mexico ________.

A. begging is looked down upon

B. begging is considered as a normal part of life

C. visitors all over the world treat beggars kindly

D. few people are living a poor life

22. The sentence “can I do that again?” showed that the boy ________.

A. got pleasure by helping the little beggar

B. wanted to please his father

C. began to like the little beggar

D. wanted to be the little beggar’s friend

23. According to the writer, being a good person means ________.

A. having the courage to correct his/her mistakes

B. being friendly to beggars

C. being ready to give

D. being able to teach children to tell right from wrong

Most children now chat daily either online or through their mobile phones. They are connecting to a huge number of other children all over the world. Some are shy “in real life” but are confident to communicate with others online; others find support from people of their own age on relationship issues, or problems at home.

Sometimes the online world, just like the real world, can introduce problems, such as bullying or arguments. Going online is great fun, but there are also a few people who use the Internet for offensive (冒犯性的) or illegal aims. Children must be made aware of both the good things and the dangers.

To keep children safe your management must cover the family computer. Just as you decide which TV pro-grams are suitable, you need to do the same for the websites and chat rooms your children visit. Remind your children that online friends are still strangers. Re-minding them of the risks will keep them alert (警惕).

Computer studies are part of schoolwork now, so it’s likely that your children may know more than you do. We get left behind when it comes to the latest gad-gets and the interactive areas of websites, like chat rooms and message boards, which are especially strange. The language of chat is strange to many parents, too. Chatters love to use abbreviations (縮寫) such as: atb — all the best, bbfn — bye bye for now, cul8er — see you later, gr8 — great, Idk — I don’t know, imbl — it must be love, kit — keep in touch, paw — parents are watching, lol — laugh out loud, xlnt — excellent!

It seems like another language, and it is!

28. The passage is meant for ______.

A. parents B. children. C. teachers D. net bar owners

29. The purpose of writing this passage is to advise ______.

A. people not to use the net language in real life

B. children not to meet online friends freely

C. teachers to have students study on computers

D. parents to protect their children from online dangers

30. In order to keep children safe online, you’d better ______.

A. forbid them to use the Internet B. teach them to use correct net words

C. surf the Internet together with them D. choose suitable websites and chat rooms for them

31. If you stand beside him when your son is chatting about something secret online, he may use ______.

A. bbfn B. paw C. lol D. cul8er

I was in a terrible mood. Two of my friends had gone to the movies the night before and hadn’t invited me.I was in my room thinking of ways to make them sorry when my father came in. “Want to go for a ride, today,Beck? It’s a beautiful day.”

“No ! Leave me alone!”Those were the last words I said to him that morning.

My friends called and invited me to go to the mall with them a few hours later.I forgot to be mad at them and when I came home to find a note on the table. My mother put it where I would be sure to see it. “Dad has had an accident. Please meet us at Highland Park Hospital”.

When I reached the hospital,my mother came out and told me my father’s injuries were extensive.“Your father told the driver to leave him alone and just call 911,thank God! If he had moved Daddy, there’s no telling what might have happened.A broken rib(肋骨)might have pierced(穿透)a lung….”

My mother may have said more, but I didn’t hear.I didn’t hear anything except those terrible words:Leave me dad said them to save himself from being hurt

much had I hurt him when I hurled those words at him earlier in the day?

It was several days later that he was finally able to have a conversation.I held his hand gently, afraid of hurting him.

“Daddy… I am so sorry….”

“It’s okay,sweetheart.I'll be okay.”

“No,”I said,“I mean about what I said to you that know, that morning?”

My father could no more tell a lie than he could looked at me and said.“Sweetheart, I don’t remember anything about that day, not before, during or after the accident. I remember kissing you goodnight the night before, though.”He managed a weak smile.

My English teacher once told me that words have immeasurable can hurt or they can we all have the power to choose our words. I intend to do that very carefully from now on.

author was in bad mood that morning because .

father had a terrible accident

couldn’t drive to the mall with his friends

friends hadn’t invited him to the cinema

father didn’t allow him to go out with his friends

did the author say sorry to his father in the hospital?

use he didn’t go along with his father.

use he was rude to his father that morning.

use he failed to come earlier after the accident.

use he couldn’t look after his father in the hospital

34. The reason why the author’s father said he forgot everything about that day is that .

had a poor memory didn’t want to comfort his son

just wanted to comfort his son lost his memory after the accident

lesson did Beck learn from the matter?

’t treat your parents badly. ’t hurt others with rude words.

’t move the injured in an accident. ’t be angry with friends at small things.

第二節(共5小題;每小題2分,滿分10分)

根據短文內容,從短文後的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項。選項中有兩項爲多餘選項。

If you find that your teacher is unfair to you, think about what is happening. Try to find out whether your teacher really dislikes you, or whether something else is going on. Here are some questions to ask yourself:

36 Ask your classmates if they are having trouble with the teacher, too. If they say yes, perhaps your teacher is to blame.

Are you working up to your ability? Maybe you got a C in

your last test, and your teacher told you that you could do better. And the kid sitting beside you got a C, too. 37 Isn’t this unfair? Well, it could be that your teacher knows that you could do better if you put more effort into it. 38 .

39 There’s nothing wrong with being sensitive (敏感的) ,but if you react to criticism quite differently from others, this could be a reason why you think your teacher doesn’t like you.

Does your teacher seem to act unfairly all the time, or just once in a while? Think about the harsh (苛刻的) things your teacher has done to you. Are these things happening every day, or just once or twice a month? If your teacher really hates you, you would probably be picked on all the time. 40 .

A. Are you the only person being treated badly, or is your teacher rough on the whole class?

B. Are you getting along well with your classmates?

C. Are you more sensitive than other students?

D. Are you interested in your lessons?

E. If your teacher has acted unfairly only a few times, then there’s probably something else

going on.

F. Teachers often grade students by different standards.

G. But the teacher didn’t say anything to him!

作文:Say No to Copying Homework

Nowadays, copying others’ homework is quite common in some schools. There two main reasons for this.

Firstly, some students spend too much time playing so that they have no time for homework. Another reason is that some don’t listen to their teachers attentively in the class so they cannot do their homework by themselves. In order to hand them in, they have no choice but to copy.

As we all know, homework plays an important role in our studies. It is used to check our study and help us review our lessons. If we hand in the homework copied form others, our teachers will not know what we haven’t understood.

So it is time that we said no to copying homework. Only by doing homework on our own can we really make progress in our studies.
