英語常規詞的用法和區分方法

基數詞和序數詞的用法
1. hundred, thousand, million 與數字連用，表示一定量的具體數字，不用複數，但表示不定概念可用複數
例：three hundred people, millions of people
2. 基數詞表示時刻。
例：7點 seven o'clock, 7:20 seven twenty
3. 給某些事物編號
例：Lesson One=the first lesson
Bus No. 2 7月1日=July I (July Ist)
1996年6月3日=June 3, 1996=June the third, nineteen ninety-six
4. 有關分數表示法。分子是基數詞，分母是序數詞。當分子大於1時，分母就用複數。
例：I've read one-fifth of the books.
I've finished three-fifths of the words.
5. 有關倍數表示法
兩倍用twice, 三倍以上用數詞+times, 要注意倍數在句子的位置。
例：The door is three times the size of this.
6. 十位數字(個位爲零)的基數詞以複數形式出現時，表示年代、年齡
例：She is a good-looking woman in her forties. (forties 指40-49歲之間)
can和be able to的用法區別
1)can could 表示能力;可能 (過去時用could)，
只用於現在式和過去式(could)。be able to可以用於各種時態。
They will be able to tell you the news soon. 他很快就能告訴你消息了。
2)只用be able to
a. 位於助動詞後。
b. 情態動詞後。
c. 表示過去某時刻動作時。
d. 用於句首表示條件。
e. 表示成功地做了某事時，只能用was/were able to， 不能用could。
He was able to flee Europe before the war broke out。
= He managed to flee Europe before the war broke out。
注意：could不表示時態
1)提出委婉的請求，(注意在回答中不可用could)。
--- Could I have the television on?
--- Yes, you can. / No, you can't。
2)在否定，疑問句中表示推測或懷疑。
He couldn't be a bad man.
他不大可能是壞人。
kind of 與sort of用法解析
kind of :相當;有一些：I'm kind of hungry.我有些餓了。這個詞組很口語化的，隨便放在句子的最後，在動詞形容詞前就可以了。只是表示程度，有點
kind of注意平時與a kind of的區別：a kind of常可表示不確定的“某種類似”的意思.如：I received a g was a kind of plate.我收到一份禮物,是一種類似盤子的東西.
sort of：adv.有幾分地; (想不出恰當的詞或不知下面該怎麼說時用)可以說，可說是;
sort of用法：sort of ：
I sort of thought you might say that.
我多少料到你也許會那麼說。
sort of+a n.表示具有某種氣質、特性，如 sort of a man 有那麼點兒男子漢氣概，此時sort of = kind of 。
a sort of =a kind of 一種......
此外，a kind of常可表示不確定的“某種類似”的意思。如：
I received a gift. It was a kind of plate.我收到一份禮物，是一種類似盤子的東西。
kind of 還表示“相當，有一些”的意思，如：I'm kind of hungry我有些餓了。
kind of / sort of 後接名詞特點：一般要用在單數可數名詞和不可數名詞前(且名詞前通常不用冠詞);複數形式的kinds [sorts] of則通常用於複數名詞或不可數名詞前(名詞前也不用冠詞)。
例如：What kind [sort] of picture do you like best? 你最喜歡什麼樣的圖畫?
I enjoy these kinds [sorts] of films. 我喜歡這些類型的電影。
比較What kind [sort] of ...和What kind [sort] of a ...
兩者從形式上看，一個帶不定冠詞，一個不帶不定冠詞;從意思上看兩者稍有區別：
(1) What kind [sort] of ...側重指類型、類別、種類等，其中的 what 具有類似 which的含義。如：
What kind [sort] of car is it? 這是什麼牌子的車?
(2) What kind [sort] of a...側重指作用、性質、性能等，其中的what具有類似how的含義。如：
What kind [sort] of a car is it? 這種車質量如何?
