表系主的倒裝指的是，表語置於系動詞之前。在例1中，系動詞是is，表語是Implicit within Tylor’s definition，主語是the concept that culture is learned, shared, and patterned behavior，出現表系主的倒裝的原因是主語比較長，爲了避免頭重腳輕，所以就將主語放到了後面。像該句中的主語中就嵌套了一個同位語從句that culture is learned, shared, and patterned behavior，解釋說明the concept，主語就比較長。表系主倒裝結構的翻譯還是整體順譯，所以上句的參考譯文爲：在泰勒的定義裏比較隱晦的是這樣一個概念：文化是一種習得的、共享的和模式化的行爲。
2.Than引導的比較狀語從句的倒裝
例2：Parents watch more TV than do their children.
該句中的than do their children還原一下，應該爲than their children watch TV，但是我們會發現這樣的話整個句子會顯得很冗長、囉嗦，所以，在than引導的比較狀語從句中，如果從句謂語使用do/did/does來代替主句中出現的動詞內容，那麼該從句使用全部倒裝。在翻譯的時候，可以翻譯爲“與...相比，主句”。所以例2可理解爲：與孩子相比，父母看更多的電視。

本句主幹爲Those reacted more enthusiastically to funny cartoons，forced to exercise their smiling muscles是V-ed粉刺短語做後置定語，修飾those，than did those whose mouths were contracted in a frown是比較狀語，其中嵌套了一個whose mouths were contracted in a frown定語從句，suggesting that expressions may influence emotions rather than just the other way around是一個結果狀語，其中嵌套了that expressions may influence emotions rather than just the other way around賓語從句。
整句參考譯文爲：與那些嘴巴收縮成皺眉狀的人相比，那些被迫去練習笑肌的人對於有趣的卡通漫畫反應更加強烈。
