歐洲的心臟
比利時的首都布魯塞爾 Brussels 被稱爲歐洲的心臟，歐盟的總部就在布魯塞爾。

事實上，現在國際上提起歐盟的時候，常常直接說“布魯塞爾怎樣怎樣”。
布魯塞爾雲集了全世界各國的外交官和外媒記者，其數量和美國的華盛頓一起冠絕全球。
Together with Washington D.C., Brussels has the highest number of diplomats and foreign press correspondents in the world. Since the end of the Second World War, it has been a major centre for international politics and the home of numerous international organisations, politicians, diplomats and civil servants. Brussels is the de facto capital of the European Union, as it hosts a number of principal EU institutions, including its administrative-legislative, executive-political, and legislative branches (though the judicial branch is located in Luxembourg, and the European Parliament meets for a minority of the year in Strasbourg) and its name is sometimes used metonymically to describe the EU and its institutions.
布魯塞爾和華盛頓一樣，聚集了世界上最多的外交官和外國媒體記者。自二戰結束以來，布魯塞爾就一直是國際政治的中心，也是衆多國際組織、政客、外交官和公務員的常駐地。歐盟的首都其實是布魯塞爾，因爲歐盟的許多重要機構都在布魯塞爾，其中包括歐盟行政管理、執政和立法機構（儘管歐盟的司法部門位於盧森堡，而歐洲議會偶爾在斯特拉斯堡召開會議）。有時候，布魯塞爾還被用來代指歐盟及其機構。
