Italy will be absent from the World Cup finals for the first time in 60 years after a long night of frustration ended in an ocean of tears in Milan.
意大利國家足球隊60年來首次無緣世界盃決賽。在昨晚漫長的鏖戰過後，無數球迷淚灑米蘭。
Trailing 1-0 from last Friday’s first leg in Stockholm, they were unable to break down a resolute Sweden who held out magnificently to earn themselves a place in the World Cup draw on Dec 1.
上週五在斯德哥爾摩客場對陣瑞典隊的比賽中，意大利隊0:1先負一場。而在昨晚的比賽中，意大利隊仍未能打敗堅定果斷的瑞典隊。瑞典隊派出強大陣容，爲爭奪世界盃決賽席位奮力一搏。世界盃決賽抽籤將於12月1日舉行。
意大利上次無緣世界盃還是在1958年，那次比賽恰好在瑞典舉行。在13日的生死大戰中，意大利隊的控球率達到了75%，但始終無法敲開對方的大門。

Buffon said: “I’m not sorry for myself but all of Italian football. We failed at something which also means something on a social level. There’s regret at finishing like that.”

Buffon, 39, said: "It's a shame my last official game coincided with the failure to qualify for the World Cup.

Goalkeeper Buffon made 175 appearances for his country in a 20-year career - lifting the World Cup in 2006 - and believes the future could still be bright for the four-time world champions.

"There is certainly a future for Italian football because we have pride, ability, determination and after bad tumbles, we always find a way to get back on our feet," he said.

"I don't know what we missed, all I know is we're out of the World Cup, it's a unique disappointment and leaving this group of lads is painful," said defender Barzagli.

Italy manager Giampiero Ventura - under contract until 2020 - did not speak to national television after the defeat but arrived at a news conference 90 minutes after full time.
意大利國家隊教練詹皮耶羅-文圖拉的合同要到2020年纔到期，他在賽後沒有接受國家電視臺採訪，卻在一個半小時後參加了一場新聞發佈會。
"I have not resigned because I haven't spoken to the president yet," Ventura, 69, said.

意大利足球隊也被稱爲“意大利男模隊”，領銜世界足壇頂尖帥哥榜，多少型男帥哥讓無數人愛上足球。此前，已經有荷蘭、美國和智利三支2014年世界盃的參賽隊出局。
一位負責電視轉播的高層向安莎社透露：“在上屆世界盃中，國際足聯從意大利國家電視和天空電視獲得的意大利市場電視版權收入大約爲1.8億歐元。而如果世界盃沒有意大利的話，進賬的數字則很難超過8000萬歐元。”
