比較(contrast &;comparison)
在託福大作文的寫作中，考生可以拿相同或相反的事物做比較，相同關係叫對照(comparison)，相反關係叫對比(contrast)。此類論證我們重點掌握一些對比對照關係的連詞：

引用(quotation)
比如，拿名人名言來進行論證則更有說服力，說明某位名人的觀點和你的觀點是達成一致，形成共鳴的。但這需要考平時的積累，不能在考試時候過於生搬硬套。此外，引用名人名言就意味着引用別人的觀點，所以只要引兩到三句起到論證自己觀點的作用的話就可以了，點到爲止，而不是中文寫作中，引用越多越好。
讓步(making concession)
讓步的論證是中國考生較陌生的一個概念，其實在學狀語從句時，我們就學過讓步的關係，先退一步承認一個與自己觀點相反的事實，再轉折給出自己的觀點，否定前者。這種方法在中文寫作中由於應用的比較少，所以在沒有完成掌握的情況下，不要強行套用。句型如下：
