On July 26th of 1980, in a hospital on New Zealand’s North Island, a baby girl who cried quite loud came to this world.

The Ardern couple looked at this second daughter who had a big voice, imagining how she would be like in 20 years. Although they didn’t see the picture very clearly, they thought she would be well-behaved.

So, they decided to call her Jacinda. That name means a kind of little flower with sweet scent.

But things haven’t gone quite as they have planned.

It seems like the little flower they wanted never came. Instead, what the Ardern couple have seen has been something totally different.

37 years have passed. On October 19th of 2017, New Zealand welcomed its youngest state leader in its 160 years of history. And this leader is a female Prime Minister.

Her name is Jacinda Ardern.

37 is a very young age for someone working in politics.

And Jacinda is not only young but also a woman. So it’s completely imaginable for her to get questioned in this club of old men.

And questioned she got. Right on the second day after her inauguration, when she was on a morning show of TVNZ, the male anchor asked her:

“If you take your maternity leave in your term of office, would it affect your job?”

Yeah, yeah, yeah, every time people talk about women, it always ends up in talking about having babies.

Jacinda, who is a Leo, didn’t choose to stay silent. She toughly told the anchor:

“When to have her baby is of a woman’s own choice. This should not be a precondition to decide whether she gets the job or not.”

Yes, this is Jacinda.

Ever since she was little, she has not been a conventional girl who does what she is told to do.

When she was still in school, she had been such a problem for the Ardern couple.

Every few days, they would get called by her teacher and asked to have a conversation in the school.

Because, besides being always restless, Jacinda often brought the other kids up to go against the teachers’ opinions.

And her hobby was also not so girly. She like night club, electronic music and DJing. She was known as a party queen in her school.

Latter she even became a famous local DJ and went to take part in some huge music festivals.

While playing wildly outside the school, her moves inside the school also got bolder and bolder.

In the past, what she had done had only being leading other students to question the teachers. And now, she became a key opinion leader in the school and started to lead some rights groups.

The school authority had quite a headache when dealing with her.

And besides what she did in the school, she also had some issues with the church which her parents belong to. She couldn’t tolerate the deep-rooted male chauvinism in it. So she resigned from the church.

This had astonished a lot of the local believers. And her parents, who were very devout, found it pretty difficult to accept.

But, of course, by doing this she had won herself some admiration.

More and more people started to admire this spirit of independence in her.

Her self-identification kept growing stronger. And she went to University of Waikato to study politics and public relations.

Now you can say that her path in politics has become smooth. But she didn’t settle for changing into a conventional politician.

She is still, from every perspective, that girl who doesn’t to what she is told.

Though she is the state leader of New Zealand, her boyfriend who lives with her is a well-known playboy in New Zealand's entertainment industry. His name is Clarke Gayford.

This 39-year-old anchor has had a considerable number of ex-girlfriends. And this has brought many doubts to his current relationship with Jacinda.

Tabloids love to report about their personal businesses. And there are always little people who come to give opinion on their private life.

But Jacinda doesn’t give a damn about this. It’s her life, right? Why is it others’ business?

And maybe it’s because free spirits tend to attract one another, Clarke and Jacinda’s life has been very happy.

Yes, the little flower which her parents wanted still didn’t come.

Jacinda has always been that girl who does not do what she is told.

And this girl has got everything she ever wanted.

In this road we call life, managing yourself wisely is way more reliable than relying on someone else.

And for those girls who are accustomed to obey, what have they lost?

They have lost the chance to truly live their own lives.
