Chinese authors refused Sunday to accept an apology from Baidu, saying the Internet search giant lacks sincerity in speaking out against alleged infringement of intellectual property by copying books without permission.
In a statement published Saturday, Baidu apologized to writers whose books had been uploaded for free access and download to its Wenku database, an open online platform, saying it will try to work out a business model to make sure the profits can be returned to copyright owners.
