英語時間通常用以下兩種方法表達：
1. 直接表達法

注：A. 當分鐘數是15分鐘時，可用名詞quarter (一刻鐘)表示。如：
7:15可表示爲 a quarter past seven， 12:15可表示爲 a quarter past twelve
B. 當分鐘數是30分鐘時，可用名詞half (一半)表示。如：
9:30 可表示爲 half past nine，3:30可表示爲 half past three。
C. 若想表明是上午，可在時間後加上am或a.m.。如：thirteen past six a.m. (上午六點十三分)等。若想表明是下午，可 在時間後加上pm或p.m.。如：four o'clock p.m. (下午四點)等。
D. 若表示的時間不夠準確，可在時間前加上介詞about。如：about eight (大約八點)等。
E. 在時間前面應用介詞at 來表示在的意思。如：at nine 在九點鐘，at about five thirty-five p.m. 大約在下午五點三 十五分等。
