茶話會第449期:含着銀湯匙出生

單詞silver是“銀製的、銀色的”，silver spoon就是銀勺，引申爲財富。If you are born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you are born into a rich family. 如果說你是含着銀勺出生的，意思也就說你生於富貴家庭。那麼短語born with a silver spoon in one’s mouth就是生來富貴，Just because you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you think you are Bill Gates?只因你出生富貴，便以爲自己是比爾蓋茨、很了不起嗎?
2. You won't be spoon-fed all your life and it's about time you began to think for yourself.
後半句更好理解：該是你開始自己思考的時候了。it's about time you began to think for yourself. 前面有一個短語：spoon-fed。字面上來理解呢就是人家把食物餵給你吃。If you are spoon-fed, you are given so much information that you don't have to try to find out the answers yourself. 如果說你spoon-fed，意思是別人給你許多信息，而你不必自己去找答案。其實就是受填鴨式教育的。Spoonfeed就是動詞填鴨式教育。什麼意思呢？鴨子在飼養的過程中養鴨人用含糖量高的柱狀飼料塞進鴨子嘴裏使其快速增肥。填鴨式教育實際上就是灌輸式教育。Teachers should never spoonfeed their students, do you think so? 老師不應該採取填鴨式教學方法,你認爲呢?不過我之前說的例句中是spoon-fed指被寵壞的，想想看，衣來伸手飯來張口是不是很嬌慣呢？You won't be spoon-fed all your life and it's about time you began to think for yourself. 你不能一輩子依賴別人，該是你開始自己思考的時候了。
3. I'm fed up to the back teeth with my job.
Back teeth指“臼齒、磨牙”，fed up with指“受夠了：When you are extremely irritated and fed up with something or someone, you are fed up to the back teeth. 如果你很惱怒，受夠了什麼東西，那就是fed up to the back teeth.，I'm fed up to the back teeth with my job.我煩透了現在的工作。I'm fed up to the back teeth with listening to you complaining. 我聽夠了你的抱怨。
