商務禮節美語第17期:颶風導致飛機停飛(2)

老闆Tom的班機因爲颱風來襲而停飛，從機場打電話給祕書Susan佈置工作。

Tom: And if you don't mind, call our factory in China and see if things are OK there. I'm worried about flooding.

如果你不介意的話，給我們在中國的工廠打個電話吧，問問那裏是不是一起都好。我很擔心洪水。

S: Sure thing, boss.

當然可以，老闆。

T: I'll tell you what, I'll call back in an hour or so and we'll touch base again, good?

我大概會在一小時以後給你大電話的，我們交流一下最新情況，好嗎？

S: Absolutely. Good luck and stay safe!

當然。祝你好運，一切安全。

T: Thanks, Susan.

蘇珊，謝謝。

(Hang up phone sound)

Tom讓Susan打電話給公司設在中國的工廠，看看那裏有沒有發水，還說自己一小時後再打電話給Susan, "We'll touch base again," 相互通報一下情況。To touch base意思是碰頭，聯絡，交換一下最新情況。Susan說sure thing，意思是沒問題。

(Phone ringing)

T: Oh, hello Susan. I thought we said we'd wait an hour.

哦，嗨，蘇珊，我記得我說過我們一小時以後聯繫。

S: I just got off the line with the factory and it's flooding pretty bad down there. They said the water has almost reached half a meter!

我和工廠聯繫剛掛上電話。工廠果然發洪水了，情況很糟糕。他們說水已經快半米高了。

T: Darn it! I thought we'd solved the flooding problem. Tell them to get the precision machinery off the ground floor and see if they can't use sandbags to stop any more water coming in.

真討厭！我以爲我們已經解決這個問題了。告訴他們把精密儀器搬到樓上去，然後再想辦法用沙袋把水堵在外面。

結果沒到一小時，Susan就心急火燎地打電話給Tom. 原來是Susan剛剛got off the line with the factory，跟工廠聯繫剛掛上電話，get off the line，是掛電話的意思。Tom擔心得一點沒錯，工廠果然在發水，已經快半米高了。Tom讓他們趕緊把precision machinery，精密儀器搬到樓上去，然後用sandbags，沙袋，想辦法把水堵在外面。

S: Ok. There are a couple of people from the head office there. I'll ask them to take charge and try to limit the damage as much as possible.

總部辦公室有幾個人在工廠那邊。我會讓他們負責並且儘可能地減少損失。

T: The last time it flooded we lost one of our production lines for almost three weeks! We can't afford that again. Tell them to spare no effort to keep the water out of the production area!

上一次發洪水就導致公司有一條生產先停工將近一個星期。告訴他們想盡一切辦法，堅決不能讓水進到車間裏去。

S: Will do. What about your flight? Any word?

我會告訴他們的。你的航班怎麼樣了？有消息了嗎？

T: Not , wait a are announcing something about my flight...I'll call you right back.

還沒有……哦，等一下……廣播好像在說我的航班的事……我待會給你打電話。

S: Ok.

好的。

(Sound of phone hang up)

Susan說，總部head office有幾個人正在工廠那邊，可以讓他們負責to take charge，儘量減少損失。Tom說，上次發水公司就有一條生產線停工將近三個星期，We can't afford that again，我們再也承受不起這樣的損失了。所以tell them to spare no effort...，告訴他們想盡一切辦法，堅決不能讓水進到車間裏去。

Susan最後問Tom的班機有沒有消息。Any word? 相當於is there any word on your flight? Word，在這裏是消息的意思。Tom說，他們好象正在宣佈什麼，所以就先掛了電話，Tom的工廠會受到嚴重損失嗎？我們下次繼續聽。
