It's not often that a business is feted by Alberta's power couple, Premier Alison Redford and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. But when China's largest bank comes calling, Canada's oil patch rolls out the red carpet.

The Beijing-based bank's eighth branch in Canada--and first outside Toronto and Vancouver--follows a wave of Chinese investment in Western Canada's oil and gas sector. Alberta alone accounts for nearly 75% of China's roughly $50 billion total foreign investment in Canada.

Plans for a Calgary branch were first made public back in 2011 during a trade mission Mr. Nenshi made to China. That was just a year after ICBC took a 70% stake in Hong Kong-based Bank of East Asia Ltd.'s operations in Canada.

'Thanks for not making a liar out of me,' he said to chuckles from the audience. 'Because when the mayor says you're coming, you have to be here.'

Yet he noted that unlike everywhere else in world, the Canadian operations are marketed under the moniker ICBK because ICBC is the trademark of the Insurance Company of British Columbia.
朱銘 表示，進駐卡爾加里是工商銀行拓展海外市場的全球舉措的一部分。他表示，與世界其他地區分支機構不同的是，加拿大分行使用的英文縮寫名稱是ICBK，因爲ICBC是Insurance Company of British Columbia的商標。
