102 luxuriant，luxurious
這兩個詞都是源出於名詞luxury，但詞義有所不同。
Luxuriant的意思是“繁茂的”、“茂盛的”（abundant or exuberant in growth），多指植物花草和頭髮的茂密。例：
The bees are humming over the luxuriant flowers．
蜜蜂在繁茂的花叢上嗡嗡作響。
My daughter has luxuriant bair．
我的女兒的頭髮長得很密。
Luxuriant有時可用作轉義，例如：
He has luxuriant imagination．
他有豐富的想像力。
Luxurious是“奢侈豪華”（characterized by luxury），它大多指生活方面的奢侈。如：
The luxurious palaces of the rich have been turned into rest homes and sanatoriums．
富人們的豪華別墅已變成了休養所和療養院。
Luxurious有時也能用在好的方面，表示“豐富”、“安樂”、“舒適”等義。例：luxurious food（豐美的食物）。
現將luxuriant和luxurious用在一個句子中，以便區別：
While we were in Indonesia，we stayed in luxurious suite with a window commanding a view of luxuriant foliage．
我們在印尼的時候，住在一所豪華的套房裏，窗戶面臨一片茂密的樹林。
近年來，很多英美人都把名詞luxury當作形容詞使用，他們說 luxury food、luxury hotel、luxury liner、luxury car、luxury flats、luxury articles等等．把luxury變成“豪華級別”的意思，跟luxurious（豐美的、豪華的）這個描述性的形容詞有少少分別。事實上，在現代英語中，用名詞代替形容詞作定語，以修飾其後之名詞，這種現象是屢見不鮮的。下面再舉兩例，以見一斑：
The Rolls Royce is a prestige car．
勞斯萊斯是款名牌汽車。
He is a prestigious scholar．
他是有名望的學者。
We are against race （racial）discrimination．
我們反對種族歧視。
Is this a launch（launching）pad？
這是發射臺嗎？
