用作形容詞時，young很易和另一形容詞youthful混淆不清。
Young指“年輕、年青”，詞義範圍較廣，既可以用於人和動物，也可以用於植物、國家、政黨和機構等詞；有時它亦可用作引申義，指“不夠成熟”或“缺乏經驗”。例：
This Miss Hong Kong is quite young．
