Nick發現老婆失蹤後，小說的形式是Nick一章，Amy一章，這段是Amy的日記，描述自己的心情。Amy充滿期待地要和丈夫Nick一起慶祝結婚三週年，可是她收到語音信箱的結果是，丈夫有事不能回家。其實是丈夫公司有員工被裁，大家去喝酒了。Amy一定覺得丈夫不愛自己了，一定覺得很失落。
