茶話會第287期:誰也說不準吖

1. There's no telling how long the talks could drag on.
首先咱們來了解這個句型：There is no telling，意思是“難以預測，誰也說不準...”，比如：說不清他何時回來。There is no telling when he will return.說不上來火車什麼時候到。There is no telling when the train will arrive.請大家造句“無法知道他到底在哪裏”。參考答案是：There is no telling where he is. 短語drag on表示“拖時間，拖延”，如果要說明拖延的時間，可以在其後加介詞for。比如：The meeting dragged on for more than three hours .那個會議單調無味地開了三個多小時。那麼”There's no telling how long the talks could drag on”意思是“誰也說不準這次談話還會拖多久”。

2. This product has always been a cash cow for our company.
這種產品一直是我們公司的搖錢樹。“搖錢樹”在這句話中對應的英文是cash cow，字面翻譯是“現金奶牛”，某種事物讓你大把賺錢，那就像奶牛擠奶一樣，讓你賺錢的東西被比作奶牛，而金錢就像牛奶產出的奶一樣。來聽一下原汁原味的英文解釋：
in American English, a "cash cow" is a product or service that makes a lot of money for a business. This common phrase is used in casual and business conversations. And when you use it, everyone will understand what you are saying. 其實呢cash cow就相當於中文裏“搖錢樹”。 This product has always been a cash cow for our company. 這種產品一直是我們公司的搖錢樹。
3. She is in the primrose of her life.
