For pupils bored of the traditional extra-curricular activities, such as violin lessons or drama classes, there is now another option golf. Shanghai Yangjing-Juyuan Experimental School has recently introduced the country's first golf lessons, costing 4,800 yuan (US$585) a term, for its pupils.

報道中的extra-curricular activities就是我們自小都在接觸的“課外活動”。所謂“課外活動”就是學校裏不包括curricular（正規課程）在內的各項活動，說白了，就是除必修課外再“額外附加”的活動。

“額外附加的”，“在…之外的”可用前綴extra-來表達，英語中類似的合成詞如：extramarital love（婚外戀），extra charge（附加費），extra income（額外收入）。
