中譯英翻譯練習03 各色"膀爺"赤膊登場
反譯題目：
在炎熱難耐的夏天，當清爽的涼風不再光顧北京，胡連羣（音）心不在焉地就找到了解決辦法：捲起T恤衫，晾出大肚皮。
他們被稱爲“膀爺”，即“光膀子的男子”（不管年齡多大）。在炎熱的季節，“膀爺” 似乎無處不在：在商業區內昂首闊步、在公園裏下棋、在動物園裏帶小孩、穿過熙熙攘攘的街巷。
“膀爺”們的形象已經深入人心……要涼快還是要形象，屬於個人抉擇，但是也請考慮下大衆的感受吧……
類似“膀爺”這種中式詞彙，如果英語中沒有對應的說法，一般是採取拼音+註釋的形式進行翻譯，或者就直接意譯。

conniezc：In the summer of brutal heat and without cool wind in Beijing, Hu Lianjun figured out a solution with out any difficulty, or, consideration-- he rolled the shirt up and showed his big belly.
They are called "Bang Ye" in Putonghua regardless of ages, meaning "the men without their shirts on". They seemed to be everywhere in the hot days: marching into the CBDs（center business district）, playing chess in the parks, walking with the children in the zoo and pacing through the crowded streets.
點評：全篇流暢準確，整體語言非常好。brutal heat很誇張也很搞笑。figure out a solution，這裏的figure out詞組用得相當不錯，很地道的語氣；類似的說法還有come up with an idea等；
“膀爺”的翻譯處理地很好，先給出拼音，然後說明是"the men without their shirts on"，這個解釋對“膀爺”的實質也說明得很清楚，不就是不穿上衣的男人麼~
joe036：In this unbearable hot summer, when cool breeze no long visits Beijing, Lianqun Hu carelessly finds a way to solve the problem -- rolling up his T shirt and pegging out his big belly.
They are called "Arm Man" -- man with bare arms, no matter how old he is. In boiling season, arm men can be spot every where -- strutting in commercial zone, playing chess in the park, looking after children in a zoo or threading the bustling streets.
點評：boiling season 和 “cool breeze no long visits Beijing”兩處都用到了比喻，很靈活的感覺；threading the bustling streets，thread這裏是動詞，意爲“穿過、蜿蜒前行”，也非常形象。
只是，arm man的說法，雖然可以就字面而言，如此直譯，後面的解釋尚有偏差，因爲膀爺並非真的只是露兩個膀子，而是露出整個肚皮或者上半身。
總評：大家這裏對“膀爺”的翻譯多種多樣，出現最多的說法是man stripped down to the waist，這是很好的描述，strip意爲“剝除、脫衣服”，strip show也就是脫衣表演的意思；be stripped down to the waist意即“半裸”；有翻譯成naked man，這裏要注意naked 可不分是全裸還是半裸啊，全裸的話那就不是膀爺，是streaker，裸奔者。
“炎熱難耐”這個形容詞，大家給出了很多很不錯的翻譯，諸如scorching、irresistibly hot、sizzling summer、in the suffocating heat等，還有同學用到了dog-day，大家知道是什麼意思麼？其實dog-day就表示三伏天、非常炎熱的天氣。
下面，我們來看原文：
In the sweltering heat of summer, when the refreshing breezes desert the city, Hu Lianqun absent-mindedly reaches for a solution: He rolls up his shirt to expose his belly.
They're known as bang ye, or "exposing grandfathers"(despite their age range). In the hottest weather, bang ye seem to be everywhere, striding among the tall buildings in Beijing's business district, playing chess in parks, holding children's hands at the zoo and negotiating crowded alleyways.

這裏的sweltering一詞不是很常見，大家或許想不到，但是，認真讀過Matin Luther King那篇I Have A Dream演講稿的同學也許記得，其中有一句：a state sweltering with the heat of injustice - swelter這裏是比喻用法，非常形象，這個句子有沒有記住呢？
“輕風、涼風”不是cold wind，而是refreshing breeze，refresh有“使輕鬆、使涼快”的意思；refreshing drinks也就可以表示我們夏天喝的冷飲。
“膀爺”這裏的翻譯雖然是"exposing grandfathers"，但是小編偏向於滬友們man stripped down to the waist的說法；外媒對膀爺的解釋也未必就那麼精準哦。
“肚子”要小小注意一下，很多同學用stomach來翻譯，其實stomach表達的是“胃”，指的是器官，而不是我們平時所說的“啤酒肚”的那個“肚子”，所以這裏要用belly一詞；那麼“啤酒肚”其實就是pot belly。
最後一個詞，negotiate，再次強調一下，這個詞除了表示“談判”，還可以表示“經過，穿過”：to successfully travel along or over。negotiate a river，意爲“涉水而過”
