"布朗尼加分"口語課堂:電燈泡兒 局外人

平時我們見到的各種車車輪數量以兩個三個四個爲主。因爲這幾個輪子已經足夠用了。如果再畫蛇添足的安上第五個輪子，就多此一舉，也沒有多餘用處了。所以，英語中，就常用短語the fifth wheel, 來表達“無用的；局萬人”甚至我們常說的“電燈泡”了。
小對話：
A: You come back so earlly. The party is boring? 你回來的這麼早。舞會沒意思？
B: All the boys and girls were dancing at the party while I sat at a table alone, feeling like a fifth wheel. 晚會上，所有的男孩和女孩都在跳舞，只有我孤零零地坐在桌邊，感覺自己彷彿是一個多餘的人。
雖然現在很多機車，特別是越野車的後面也會備上一個備用輪胎，但它們稱之爲spare wheel,或者spare tyre. 而不能稱爲the fifth wheel.
