Hear something on the grapevine. Grapevine葡萄藤，通過細細的拐了彎兒的葡萄藤傳過來的消息被我們稱爲“小道消息；祕密的信息來源”。有時也翻譯成“謠傳的，道聽途說的”。比如：

I hear on the grapevine from people in the game there is a worrying lack of talent coming through at junior level. 我在比賽中聽到人們談論擔心沒有足夠好的運動員應對中級的比賽。

還有一些情況我們的談話僅屬於朋友之間的，非正式的。對於這樣的信息我們常用off the record來表示。來看一個例子：

It would not take long for word of that to filter back. So I made it clear to them that I was talking off the record. 那一類的話不要多久就會傳回去，所以我明確地向他們表示，我的談話是非正式的。

有些信息需要費力去獲取，有些信息卻是at your fingertips, 得來全不費功夫。At one's fingertips這個短語表示“觸手可及”。比如：

Future managers will have at their fingertips as much data as they need to analyze any marketing decision without having to go through a lot of complicated research data. 未來的經理人將會有足夠多的觸手可及的信息用來分析某一個市場策劃，而不必查閱繁複的研究資料。

最後我們再來看看Put someone in the picture，這個短語表示“把基本情況告訴某人”，比較常用。比如：

Meet me after work and I'll put you in the picture on the Smith Contract. 我們下班後碰個面，我會把有關史密斯公司的合同的基本情況告訴你。
