《小謝爾頓》S2E1：“忽略”不只是ignore！

來看《小謝爾頓》第二季第一集，小天才送報還債。

做好任何一件事都是不容易的，尤其是一個自己從未涉足的領域。

謝爾頓開始要每天早起，嘗試去克服自己害怕動物的障礙，在偶發的風雨天裏保持送報的過程不中斷。

1. tune out

這天在吃飯時，謝爾頓彷彿又被什麼聲音困擾着。tune (sb/sth) out和ignore意思差不多，都表示不理睬，對…置之不理。

Most of what he says is such garbage that I just tune him out.

他講的全是廢話，所以我乾脆不去理睬。

2. strong suit

美式口語裏說的strong suit，在英式口語裏常說strong point，形容（某人擅長的）強項。

Patience isn't exactly her strong suit (= she is not at all patient).

耐心不是她的強項。

3. feel free

如果別人對你說feel free，他的意思是你可以隨便做什麼。

Feel free to help yourself to coffee.

請隨意喝咖啡。

4. the elements

複數的the elements可以指代天氣，而且（通常指）惡劣天氣。

We decided to brave the elements and go for a walk (= go for a walk despite the bad weather).

我們決定頂風冒雨去散步。
