《小謝爾頓》S2E9：“牽強”用英語怎麼說？

1. in the cards

這裏的card不是賭博打牌，可以看作是用來算命的塔羅牌，如果別人說某件事“in the cards（英式口語裏是“be on the cards”）”，那麼就是說話的人認爲這件事情十有八九要發生。

"So you think they'll get married next year?" "I think it's in/on the cards."

“那麼你認爲他們明年會結婚嗎？”“我看很有可能。”

2. sth knows no bounds

複數bounds形容（法律或社會的）界限；限制；限定區域。

beyond reasonable bounds

超出正常的範圍

beyond/outside the bounds of acceptable behavior

令人無法接受

sth knows no bounds指的是（某人的某特質）沒有限量，無限。

Her generosity knows no bounds.

她極其慷慨大方。

3. stretch

stretch的意思是超過限度；過分；離譜；破例。

His idea may be a stretch, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.

他的主意可能有點兒誇大其詞，但並不是完全沒有可能。

補充，put two and two together and make five可以表示“聽風就是雨”，也有牽強的意思哦。

4. put your foot down

put your foot down這裏的意思是“利用…的權力制止”：

When she started borrowing my clothes without asking, I had to put my foot down.

她開始連問都不問就把我的衣服借走的時候，我不得不出面制止。

另外，put your foot down還有“踩油門，加速行駛”的意思。
