3.詳細解說

1.“go overseas”等同於“go abroad”,意爲“出國,到國外”。
2.“go to waste”意爲“浪費掉,白費”,例如:I shall probably make mint jelly too, as there is so much mint in the garden, I
hate to see it go to waste.(我可能也會做些薄荷凍,因爲花園裏有那麼多薄荷,我可不想眼看着白白浪費掉。)
3.“input”的意思是“輸入”,在本段對話中指對方發表的意見,其反義詞爲“output”,表示“輸出”。

4.文化洗禮

吹“熱湯”還是吹“冷手”

《伊索寓言》中有這樣一則故事:一位旅行者受到森林之神薩泰爾(Satyr)的款待。因爲天氣寒冷,這位旅行者呵着氣暖手;森林之神請他喝肉湯,但他卻左右爲難,因爲他不知道是要用嘴巴喝湯還是吹氣暖手。因此,他一會兒吹吹(blow)熱(hot)湯,一會兒又吹吹冷冰冰的( cold)手。這樣一來,他兩者都沒顧得上,湯涼了,手還是冰的,湯自然也沒喝成,還惹得森林之神勃然大怒,把他趕出大門。
英語中短語“blow hot and cold““遊移不定、躊躇不決”就是源自於這則故事。請看下面的例句
